My trip to California was probably the most spontaneous thing I’ve ever done in my life. Also the hardest thing, because I decided to do this trip completely alone, which scared me a lot.
Mi viaje a California fue probablemente lo más espontáneo que he decidido hacer en toda mi vida. También lo más difícil, pues decidí emprender mi aventura completamente sola, lo cual me asustaba bastante.
When you decide to travel alone for the first time, all kind of insecurities can pop on your mind. “Will I be okay?” “Will I get bored?” or “Will I be able to handle any situation that can happen to me?” All those things I thought about, and let me tell you, it is absolutely normal. And if I share with you guys my little secret to travel alone with a peaceful mind; It is all about confidence.
Cuando decides viajar solo por primera vez, todo tipo de inseguridades pueden aparecerse en tu cabeza. “¿Estaré bien?” “¿Me aburriré?” o “¿Seré capaz de lidiar con las situaciones que se me presenten?” Todas esas cosas las pensé, y debo decirles, que es completamente normal. Y si les comparto mi truco para poder emprender mi viaje con una mente tranquila, les diré que todo está en la confianza en uno mismo.

Looking for plane tickets with months of anticipation actually helps a lot, because you have the opportunity of finding them on very cheap prices. My plane ticket to the city of Sacramento, California was only $400 round trip. I traveled with American Airlines!
Buscar boletos de avión con varios meses de anticipación ayuda mucho, pues tienes la oportunidad de encontrarlos a precios muy económicos. Mi boleto de avión a la ciudad de Sacramento, California lo pude encontrar a $400 dólares ida y vuelta. ¡Yo viajé con American Airlines!
If you’re planning a trip with the desire of exploring and acquiring new experiences, there’s no necessity of expending so much money on expensive hotels, because at the end of the day, you will only need it to sleep and probably the rest of the day you won’t even be there. I decided to stay at a hostel, in the city of Sacramento. Yes, it is true that I had to share rooms with other girls, but even though that may not sound appealing at first, it was actually very fun. Thanks to that, I met new incredible people, including a new friend from Thailand. I stayed at the Hi Sacramento International Hostel.
Si estás planificando un viaje con el deseo de explorar y adquirir nuevas experiencias, no hay necesidad de gastar mucho dinero en hoteles caros, pues al final del día, solo lo utilizarás para dormir y puede que el resto del tiempo no estés ahí. Yo opté por un hostal, en la ciudad de Sacramento. Sí, es cierto que tuve que compartir habitación con otras chicas, pero aunque a primera instancia no suene muy bien, realmente fue muy divertido. Y gracias a eso, conocí personas nuevas, incluyendo a una nueva amiga tailandesa. Yo me quedé en el Hi Sacramento International Hostel.
The hostel in general was very beautiful and very clean. The service was incredible, very polite. If you ever visit the city of Sacramento, I totally recommend you this hostel, and it’s very cheap, I only paid $25 dollars per night.
El hostal en general está hermoso, y muy limpio. El servicio fue increíble; si alguna vez visitas la ciudad de Sacramento, este hostal es la mejor opción, y es muy económico, pagando solo $25 dólares la noche.
If you’re asking yourself what things should you take with you on your trip, especially a short trip like mine was, it all depends on the person. But personally, I decided not to take too many clothes, that way I would make sure to take with me a small luggage and my backpack with all my personal documents. That way your trip will be more comfortable. For the long flight hours, it’s always a good idea to take a book with you, or a notebook where you can write every detail of your experience.
Si te preguntas qué cosas deberías llevar para tu viaje, especialmente un viaje corto como lo fue el mío, todo depende de cada persona. Pero en mi caso, decidí no llevar demasiada ropa, de esa forma me aseguraría de solo llevar una maleta pequeña y mi mochila donde tendría todos mis documentos personales. Así tu viaje será mas cómodo. Para las largas horas de vuelo, siempre es buena idea llevar contigo un libro, o un cuaderno donde puedas escribir cada detalle de tus experiencias.
Of the things that I essentially had to take with me, aside from my hair straightener, was my skin care products, it is always good to take care of yourself, even when you’re on a trip and you feel like you have left your daily basis routine.
De las cosas que esencialmente debía llevar conmigo en mi maleta, además de mi plancha para el cabello, mis productos de limpieza facial, siempre es bueno el cuidado personal, aún cuando estás de viaje y sientes que has salido de tu rutina habitual.
My first day in Sacramento I had it very well planned. I decided to go on a food tour which ended up also being a historic tour about the roots of Sacramento, and while we visited different restaurants, we also walked down the city, exploring its surroundings. It was very incredible and I met people that made me feel like home. You visit about four restaurants and the general ticket is $60 dollars.
Mi primer día en Sacramento ya lo tenía muy bien planificado. Decidí ir a un Tour de Comida el cual resultó ser también un tour histórico de los orígenes de Sacramento, y mientras visitábamos diferentes restaurantes, también caminábamos por la ciudad explorando sus alrededores. Fue muy increíble y conocí personas que me hicieron sentir como en casa. Se visitan alrededor de cuatro restaurantes, y la entrada general del tour es de $60 dólares.
My second day in Sacramento was the most important out of the three days in that wonderful city. I went to the Wizard World Comic Con, where there was going to be actors from different tv series, among them, Evan Peters and Denis O’hare from the tv show American Horror Story. That day in general was one of the best days of my entire life, not only because I met two of my favorite actors, but also because I met so many incredible people, and the environment was very nice. If there’s something I’ve learned in those three days in Sacramento, is that the perfect place to find famous people is Starbucks. While I was talking to a friend I met on my trip, both seating at Starbucks, Denis O’hare, one of my favorite actors, walked into the place, and I got the opportunity to talk to him and it turns out he speaks spanish very well! And also, he told me his husband is Puerto Rican, which is awesome.
Mi segundo día en Sacramento era el más importante de mis tres días en esa maravillosa ciudad. Fui al Wizard World Comic Con, donde estarían varios actores de diferentes series televisivas, entre ellos Evan Peters y Denis O’hare de la serie American Horror Story. El día en general fue uno de los mejores de toda mi vida, no sólo porque tuve la oportunidad de conocer a dos de mis actores favoritos, sino porque conocí muchas personas nuevas y el ambiente estuvo muy increíble. Si algo pude aprender en mis tres días en Sacramento, es que Starbucks es el lugar perfecto para encontrar personas famosas. Mientras charlaba con una amiga que conocí en mi viaje, ambas sentadas en Starbucks, entró al lugar uno de mis actores favoritos, Denis O’hare, y tuve la oportunidad de charlar con él un rato. ¡Y resulta que habla muy bien el español! Y su esposo es puertorriqueño, lo cual es genial.
My third and last day in Sacramento was very fun, and sad at the same time. If someone would have asked me before I decided to make this trip, if it was possible to care about people in just three days, I probably would have said no. But after my wonderful weekend with beautiful people, I realized that it is possible to care about people and loving places in such a short amount of time. I enjoyed my last day in California with my new friends from Mexico and Thailand and after that I prepared myself for my trip back home. I definitely did not came back the way I left, I came back filled with new experiences, and ready for my next trip alone!
Mi tercer y último día en Sacramento fue divertido, y a la vez triste. Si me hubieran preguntado antes de haber emprendido mi viaje si era posible encariñarse con las personas en tres días, hubiera dicho que no. Pero luego de mi maravilloso fin de semana con personas tan bonitas, me di cuenta que sí es posible encariñarse un poco con las personas y con los lugares en tan poco tiempo. Disfruté mi último día en California con mis nuevas amigas de México y Tailandia y luego me preparé para mi viaje de regreso a casa. Definitivamente no regresé igual a como me había ido, regresé llena de nuevas experiencias ¡y preparada para mi siguiente viaje sola!
So, if you have in mind traveling alone but you feel a little scared, I have a big advise for you and that is, DO IT! It is one of the best experiences you’ll ever have and not only you will meet new people, but also, you have the opportunity to spend time with yourself, get to know yourself better, which is very important.
Así que si tienes en mente viajar solo pero sientes un poco de miedo, tengo un gran consejo para ti y es ¡que te atrevas a hacerlo! Es una de las mejores experiencias y no sólo conoces personas nuevas, pero tienes oportunidad de pasar tiempo contigo mismo, conocerte mejor, lo cual es muy importante.
My trip to Sacramento was one of the best experiences of my life, but it sure will not be the last!
