Hello guys! On Thursday, April 21, Santurce Pop opened their doors to the fashion Revolution Puerto Rico event and it was amazing. Between the local designers, the amazing vegan food by Bori Vegan (https://www.facebook.com/Boriveganpr/) and the runway, the evening went as expected. I interviewed some of the designers so you would feel like you were there. So, here it goes:
¡Hola, chicos! El jueves, 21 de abril, Santurce Pop abrió sus puertas al evento Fashion Revolution Puerto Rico y fue increíble. Entre los diseñadores locales, la grandiosa comida vegana de Bori Vegan (https://www.facebook.com/Boriveganpr/) y la pasarela, la tarde fue todo lo que se esperaba. Yo entrevisté a algunos de los diseñadores para que sientan como si hubiesen estado allí. Así que aquí está:
1. Tereques (La Tiendita -The Store): Tereques started as a Bazaar 10 years ago in Calle Loíza. They sell vintage clothes, jewelry, accessories and so much more. They’ve been selling clothes as a store for five years now and they have over 50 local brands working with them. 1. Tereques: Tereques comenzó como Bazaar navideño hace 10 años en Calle Loíza. Ellos venden ropa antigua (Vintage), joyería, accesorios y mucho más. Han estado vendiendo ropa como tienda hace 5 años y tienen sobre 50 marcas locales trabajando con ellos. 2. Tare: Tare started 2 years ago and have been in Santurce Pop for a month. Giovanna Vemí is the founder and owner of Tare, and she started working in her gallery. She also was a teacher on her free time. She works with porcelain and mud to make her beautiful ceramics. She also sells headbands, cactus and succulents, some of her paintings and a beautiful type of fortune cookie that has a meaningful and spiritual massage inside of a little paper hold by a dove. 2. Tare: Tare comenzó hace 2 años y lleva un mes en Santurce Pop. Giovanna Vemí es la fundadora y dueña de Tare y al comienzo, trabajaba en su galería. También, ella era maestra en su tiempo libre. Ella trabaja con porcelana y barro para hacer su hermosa cerámica. Ella también vende banditas de cabello, cactus y suculentas, algunas de sus pinturas y un hermoso tipo de galletitas de la fortuna que tiene un gran mensaje espiritual adentro de un papelito agarrado por una paloma. 3. Dos Pinceles: This store was created by two young twin sisters that love working together. Gabriela and Patricia Uturria took a year long workshop on how to make jewelry and then created Dos Pinceles. They both studied Fine Arts in the University of Puerto rico, Mayagüez. The twins expressed that they always wanted to work together and that they’ve been in Santurce Pop since December 10, 2015. Check them out: https://www.facebook.com/dospinceles
3. Dos Pinceles: Esta tienda fue creada por dos jóvenes hermanas gemelas que aman trabajar juntas. Gabriela y Patricia Urrutia tomaron un taller de una año de duración de cómo hacer joyería y ahí es que nace Dos Pinceles. Las dos estudiaron Artes Plásticas en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Mayagüez. Las gemelas expresaron que siempre quisieron trabajar juntas y que han estado en Santurce Pop desde diciembre 10, 2015. 4.Coa Sunglasses: Gregg Williamson Pérez created the concept of Coa Sunglasses as a desire to make the machinery that makes sunglasses. He started 5 years ago and hasn’t stop creating ever since. Williamson said that he loved to destroy things ever since he was a kid and that he loves when he gets people’s reactions when they see his designs. 4. Coa Sunglasses: Gregg Wialliamson Pérez, creó el concepto de Coa Sunglasses luego de tener el deseo de hacer la maquinaria que hace gafas de sol. Él empezó hace 5 años y no ha parado de crear desde que comenzó. Williamson dijo que le gustaba destruir cosas desde chiquito y que le encanta cuando recibe la reacción de las personas cuando ven sus diseños. 5. Tie Compass: Sara Figueroa found her inspiration after her desire to dress her husband and son with a unique, yet classy style. The young entrepreneur creates beautiful reversible bow ties that are also “Self-Tie”, for an easier use. Sara studied architecture and showed interest in expanding her brand via internet. 5. Tie compass: Sara Figueroa encontró su inspiración luego de su deseo por vestir a su esposo y a su hijo con un estilo único pero con clase. La joven emprendedora crea hermosas colbatas de lazo que son reversibles y que se pueden poner con facilidad. Sara estudió arqutectura y mostró interés en expandir su marca vía internet. 6. Botón de Azúcar: The concept of Botón de Azúcar was initiated by Aimar and her best friend Karla (Associate). They create stunning pieces made out of buttons that they hand paint. 6. Botón de Azúcar: El concepto de Botón de Azúcar fue iniciado por Aimar y su mejor amiga Karla (Socia). Ellas crean hermosas piezas hechas de botones que ellas mismas pintan a mano. 7. alba.enid: Alba is a young engineer that decided to explorer fashion. She had a fascination for fashion, but it wasn’t until last year, that she decided to start her own line. She wants to sell online her swimsuits and hairbands, but has plans to stay at Santurce Pop. If you want to seer her beautiful pieces, got to http://www.albaenid.com/
7. alba.enid: Alba es una joven ingeniera que decidió explorar la moda. Ella tenía una fascinación por la moda, pero no fue hasta el año pasado que decidió comenzar su propia línea. 8. Sulyvette Díaz: This young designer studied Fashion Desing at the University of Turabo and has her atelier at her house in Old San Juan. Díaz, desing elegant dresses that are inspired by the colors and architecture of the Old San Juan. She also sells handmade jewelry and accessories. 8. Sulyvette Díaz: Esta joven diseñadora estudió Diseño de Moda en la Universidad del Turabo y tiene su propio atelier en su casa del Viejo San Juan. Díaz, diseña trajes elegantes que son inspirados en los colores y arquitectura del Viejo San Juan. Ella también vende joyería y accesorios. 9. Mia Vita: Paloma Andrea, who is only 22 years old, created Mia Vita as a desire to create and sell classic, yet modern and beautiful pieces for men. Also, she studied Fashion Desing along with Sulyvette Díaz at The University of Turabo. Paloma, creates her desings in Puerto Rico, gets her prints from Thailand and she has her factory in the Dominican Republic, giving her a rich cultural inspiration for her designs. 9. Mia Vita: Paloma Andrea, quien tiene solo 22 años de edad, creó Mia Vita por el deseo de crear y vender clásicas, pero modernas y hermosas piezas para hombres. También, ella estudió Diseño de Moda junto a Sulyvette Díaz en la Universidad del Turabo. Paloma, crea sus diseños en Puerto Rico, obtiene sus estampados en Tailandia y confecciona la ropa en República Dominicana en donde tiene su factoría; lo cual le da inspiración rica en cultura para sus diseños. 10. Jorge Chafey: Jorge Chafey is a puertorican singer-songwriter that began singing when he was six years old. Chafey expressed that he wants to share through his music unity in the community and for people to identify with his songs. The young artist said his music is a mix of Funk, Disco and even Reggae. For this event, Jorge Chafey sang along with Carlos in the guitar, Manny in the Drums and Sam in the bass. 10. Jorge Chafey: Jorge Chafey es un cantautor puertorriqueño que comenzó a cantar a los seis años de edad. Chafey expresó que quiere llevar a través de su musica el mensaje de crear unión en las comunidades y que con sus canciones la gente se identifique. El joven artista dijo que su música es una mezcla de Funk, Disco y hasta Reggae. En este evento, Jorge Chafey cantó junto a Carlos en la guitarra, Manny en la batería y Sam en el bajo.
